The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) is responsible for carrying out the national nuclear security responsibilities of the Department of Energy, including maintenance of a safe, secure, and reliable stockpile of nuclear weapons and associated materials capabilities and technologies; promotion of international nuclear safety and non-proliferation; and administration and management of the naval nuclear propulsion program.

This position is located in the contractor IT Support Team within the Office of the Chief Information Officer that is a component of the Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). The Office of the Chief Information Officer develops policies and procedures for effective management of information within the NNSA and oversees implementation throughout the enterprise. The position is located at NNSA Headquarters in the Washington D.C. area.

The selected candidate must be able to understand policy and procedure, and analyze their applicability to the NNSA programs and staff. The selected candidate will be required to perform significant amounts of travel in support of the Cyber Security Program. This entails working with Cyber Security and IT Staff and various NNSA locations across the continental United States. Travel is anticipated to be nearly 50% of the time.

The selected candidate reports to the contractor Cyber Security Support Team Lead. Requires minimal supervision when conducting Cyber Security Program activities. Work products require nominal review.

Additional responsibilities to include but not limited to:

Review and complete the certification and accreditation process for site-based plans, systems, applications, etc. as required

Review, revise, and complete all key program documentation to address all known and newly discovered gaps and to address all related Federal regulations and legislations and departmental requirements

Remain abreast of ever-changing threats, environmental changes, and ways to address and mitigate risk. Provide highly specialized support and expertise to address current program gap areas and strengthen the security posture of the site based on department’s requirements and industry best practices

Review and comment on upcoming policies, guides, and manuals and advise next-steps and action plans

Required Skills:

Must have a BS (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Information Systems or related technical discipline.

Must have a minimum of 8+ years experience working with Information Management to include: Information Assurance, Cyber Security, Network Security, Risk Management, Security Policy and Implementation.

Must have extensive cyber security knowledge, background and expertise and knowledge of threats and vulnerabilities as they arise.

Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Must have knowledge of the C&A process.

Must have previous experience with cyber security at a major Federal department/agency

Must be available to participate in regular travel up to (50%) to CONUS field sites

Qualified applicants may be subject to a security investigation and must meet minimum qualifications for access to classified information. U.S. Citizenship and an active Secret Clearance are required.

Desired Skills:

Previous operational experience with network security, previous tactical experience with development and implementation of security policies as well as extensive experience with certification and accreditation of Federal systems preferred.

CISSP certification, knowledge of security policy frameworks such as ISO 17799, classified systems requirements, and risk assessment of current and emerging threats highly desired.
