Retail is the biggest user of energy at REI, accounting for 80% of the total electricity usage. Managing this resource is exciting and challenging given the number and variety of facilities, systems and resources available.
As the Energy and Sustainability Manager at REI, you will take a lead role and champion continued progress and evolution to the role of CSR within the retail and store development divisions. Your knowledge and competencies will continue to drive measurable results that synchronize efforts with the strategic directions of REI.
You will drive the development, planning, and implementation of medium to large projects with a Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) focus utilizing project management methodology. You will be responsible for developing and managing programs to meet REI\'s CSR goals including but not limited to the development of the overall strategy to support energy efficiency at REI, focused primarily on electricity and gas usage.
You will partner with store development and retail teams to communicate, promote and bring alignment to REI\'s CSR strategy and manage CSR including ongoing analysis of store energy usage and areas for improvement. Work with retail partners to develop and implement strategies that support other CSR related initiatives that may include paper usage, recycling, and water usage. Drive measurable results that synchronize CSR efforts with the strategic directions of REI.
Your success in this role is reliant on your ability to work across the department, the division and the company; managing, leading and bringing innovation and substance to our sustainable building efforts in store development.
3+ years experience in a role developing and/or managing corporate retail energy programs
College Degree in a related field
Understanding of retailing operations and/or retail store development process
Experience in sustainable building design in a medium or large retail operation
LEED certified, preferred
Proven success developing and executing long-term strategies and aligning divisional and corporate direction
Proven program management experience in developing, managing, communicating and implementing to successful, proven results or metrics
Proven experience in financial and data analysis; preferably working with energy and related data to provide conclusive summaries to promote awareness and action
Proven success as a champion; building trust, inspiring change, delivering on commitments and promoting accountability in a multi-divisional, large scale project or program with a focus on driving organizational change
Ability to work in ambiguous situations and an ability to facilitate, lead and influence cross-divisionally
Ability to coordinate and collaborate with subject experts across division
Efficient and effective negotiating and conflict management skills
Excellent communication and organizational skills in formal and informal environments, with high attention to detail
