Glass and Building Materials Specialist, Industry LeaderOur client, The International Finance Corporation (IFC), World Bank Group, supports economic growth by promoting private sector investment in its developing member countries through long-term financing and advisory services. IFC’s Global Manufacturing and Services department (GMS) has a special unit focusing on Cement, Glass, and other Building Materials sector projects.

We have been retained by the Building Materials sector team to conduct the search for a Glass/Building Materials Industry Specialist to join IFC’s headquarters in Washington, D.C (relocation package available) to provide industry specific expertise and sector related business knowledge for new business processing and portfolio supervision.

This high visibility position is the sole Glass specialist within the IFC and World Bank Group.

The Glass and Building Materials Specialist will bring their industry experience and deep glass expertise to this group in an advisory capacity.

The Glass Specialist is responsible for the evaluation of worldwide glass manufacturing and building materials such as float glass, ceramic tiles, bricks and tiles, and gypsum boards that may become investment opportunities for the IFC, GMS group.

This strategic thinker with strong operations exposure will evaluate projects in emerging markets, this will involve due diligence, technical analysis and the ability to write and present in-depth reports.

As an ambassador of the IFC, exposure to the glass/building materials industry’s leaders worldwide will be an on-going part of the role.

Responsibilities

* Assess the technical and commercial feasibility of new projects, supervise project implementation and provide advice for project improvement; participate in portfolio management of existing projects

* Promote new projects, build client networks and maintain client relationships

* Work across boundaries within the Corporation in particular with respect to environmental, social, health and safety issues

* Contribute to the development of industry specific and regional investment strategies

* Further develop knowledge management and benchmarking within the Glass industry

* Present to industry groups and prepare in depth analysis and reports for investment recommendations

* Be the single Glass and Building Materials expert within the organization, educate and mentor colleagues

Qualifications

* Degree in engineering, preferably complemented by an MBA or advanced degree

* 15+ years of professional experience at a senior level (Director, VP or C-level industry experience or High Level Glass Specialist Consultant) in Glass Industry Required; experience in both technical operations and business planning and strategy is important

* Direct experience in emerging markets with relevant experience in project engineering/management, marketing, logistics and technical assistance is required.

Exposure to glass industries such as flat glass, glassware, tableware, containers, and glass fibers, and ceramic tile is desirable

* Sound business judgment to identify the strengths and weaknesses of Glass/Building Materials sector projects and to provide precise evaluation of technical, commercial, environmental and managerial issues

* Excellent communication skills in both oral and written English; additional languages skills are an advantage

* Ability to operate in multicultural teams and to work on multiple projects simultaneously

* Willingness to travel internationally

Compensation

A competitive base salary is offered, plus a bonus.

In addition, the organization provides a variety of other formal and ancillary benefits associated with a senior level role (including an expatriate mobility package, pension, excellent medical and life, and leave days). Final compensation will be dependent on the successful candidate’s experience level and background.
