Director, Design, College Readiness System

Introduction



The College Board, a national educational organization, is conducting a search for a Director of Design, College Readiness System in the EXCELerator Unit who will be resident in any of our Regional Offices.







Position Summary



The Director of Design, College Readiness System, is an integral part of the team that provides leadership and support to the EXCELerator Schools program and the EXCELerator District Transformation Initiative that draw on the College Readiness programs of the College Board. The College Board is committed to helping urban school districts establish a college-going culture and increase the number and diversity of students succeeding in college. A primary focus of both initiatives is to support districts as they design and implement a continuous improvement process to positively impact student achievement. The Director of Design designs processes and materials that enable the CRS implementation team and partner districts to train district and school-based professionals in the integration and effective implementation of the College Board College Readiness system into their district and school improvement plans. The Director must, therefore, have extensive experience developing, communicating, supporting, and monitoring the implementation of professional development programs designed to improve student achievement and college readiness.







Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to college readiness for all, and to promoting educational equity and access. They must demonstrate working knowledge of the following:







* District- and school-level teacher professional development programming and delivery



* District- and school-level data-driven improvement strategies.



* In-depth knowledge of College Board College Readiness programs, including Advanced Placement, PSAT/NMSQT, AP Potential, SpringBoard,



* College and Career Readiness



* Design and delivery of on-line professional development







Although a not-for-profit organization, the College Board runs like a private-sector business, with strong products, sales, and marketing functions. Hence, in providing professional development leadership and support to the EXCELerator schools and districts, the Director of Design will provide solid judgment and an understanding of how to develop the economic drivers for the EXCELerator School and District professional development programs, support financial analysis and budgeting for these programs, and execute against clear metrics for business and programmatic objectives.











Responsibilities



* Work in conjunction with other members of the Design and Implementation Teams on the design, implementation, and evaluation of district and school administrator and teacher professional development programs related to college readiness initiatives.



* Direct the design, development, and production of professional development materials, including institute and workshop manuals, trainer/coach manuals, and collateral marketing communication materials related to professional development. Will work with and manage appropriate consultants as needed.



* Provide support to projects and project teams designed to create instructional interventions, including directing and supervising instructional designers and instructional design assistants and external vendors. Serve on project teams designed to develop curriculum and instruction policies and procedures and provide educational developers the implications of new or revised policies and procedures on training initiatives.



* Evaluate the effectiveness of professional development design, monitoring, and training programs using various feedback methods -participant feedback, focus groups, interviews, surveys, expert consultation, peer review, and revise programs based on results of evaluations.



* Work closely with CRS Operations to ensure quality delivery of professional development programs on time, on budget, and achieving targeted quality metrics.



* Work with the College Readiness marketing liaison, relationship management and customer services to administer, coordinate and perform various promotional activities







Qualifications



Masters degree required. At least seven years of directly-related, progressively responsible work experience in the delivery of educational training programs and/or directing adult or professional learning experiences. Experience in discipline-specific or professional education or a related field is required. Project management and supervisory experience is also required, as is experience in ongoing program evaluation

* Superior verbal and written communication skills, including oral presentation/public speaking skills



* Strong interpersonal skills



* Ability to conduct research on instructional topics, methods, and media



* Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications, especially PowerPoint



* Solid organizational, time & task management skills



* Ability to effectively handle multiple situations simultaneously



* Ability to work independently and as part of a team



* Available to travel nationally
