Back Up/ITSC COOP SME

IT Service Continuity (ITC) management is concerned with managing risks to ensure that the DECC-N IT infrastructure can continue providing services in the event of an unlikely or unanticipated event. This is accomplished through a process that analyzes business processes, their impact on the customer and mission, and the IT infrastructure vulnerabilities that these processes face from a myriad of possible risks. This requires a great deal of research to be conducted with diligence in order to identify all critical mission processes and their vulnerabilities.

The Back Up/COOP Subject Matter Expert possesses extensive and expert experience in enterprise server backups and restoration from LINUX, Solaris, and Windows OS platforms. This position oversees the installation of patches and upgrades on all backup services. This position will support the EMC SAN environment and work directly with the Network Storage Engineer on any EMC related backup matters. The Back Up/COOP Subject Matter Expert is responsible for troubleshooting any hardware and software issues with Backup, COOP failover, and Service restoration for the DECC-N.

Required Skills::
  • Candidate must be an expert in using Veritas Netbackup. The candidate should possess working extensive knowledge of LINUX, Solaris, and Windows OS backup environments. Ideal candidate has an expert understanding of Quantum Tape Libraries (M1500, I-Scalar 500, PX-502) and actual hands-on experience and knowledge of working with EMC SAN devices.
Tasks:
  • The general Tasks: of the Backup/ITSC COOP Subject Matter Expert are:
  • Develops and manages the ITSC COOP plan to ensure that, at all times, the recovery objectives of the DECC-N can be achieved
  • Ensures that all IT Service areas are prepared and able to respond to an invocation of the Continuity plans
  • Maintains a comprehensive IT COOP testing schedule
  • Undertakes quality reviews of all procedures and ensure that these are incorporated into the testing schedule
  • Communicates and maintains awareness of ITSC objectives within the customer business areas supported and IT Service areas
  • Undertakes regular reviews, at least annually, of the Continuity plans with the business areas to ensure that they accurately reflect the business processing environment
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with providers of third party recovery services, if required.
  • Manage the IT Service delivery during times of crisis including:
  • Coordination with the crisis control team
  • Invocation of the appropriate recovery facilities
  • Resource management, direction, and arbitration
  • Recovery site management
  • Designs, Executes, and Maintains Backup processes and files on a regular basis
  • Backup/ITC COOP Subject Matter Expert Key Skills:
  • Expert experience in ITSC
  • Knowledge and experience of Backup and Recovery processes
  • Ability to translate business recovery requirements into technical requirements and specifications
  • Excellent IT technical knowledge to enable quality assurance of procedures to be undertaken
  • Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization
ITIL Specific Functional Roles:

  • Change Impact and Assessment Analysis for RFCs
  • Problem Analysis/Root Cause analysis either proactively or reactively to solve incidents and unsatisfactory performance trends
  • Implements changes based on approved RFCs
  • IT environment development, testing, building and deploying release packages to the production environment
Required Education & Certifications:
  • BS Degree or Equivalent experience
  • ITIL v3 Foundations Certification
  • ITIL v3 Support and Restore Practitioner Certification
