Due to our consistent growth and prosperity, we are adding a new position to the Accounting Policy department within the Controller’s Department.

The overall value of this department to the organization is to assist management in advancing the Company's conservative accounting culture throughout all business lines while ensuring new business initiatives are in compliance with GAAP

In this role, you will be responsible for developing accounting policies and procedures, coordinating the completion of significant accounting estimates, working with management regarding the appropriate application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).  In addition, you will assist in the research and implementation of new International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:



· Provide accounting and operational support throughout M&T Bank Corporation, ensuring appropriate levels of internal control.

· Coordinate the completion of critical accounting estimates.

· Support department’s monthly operational processes, which may require frequent interaction with operational staff from other departments.

· Assist in developing and documenting policies and procedures as they relate to new and existing accounting pronouncements, and new M&T Bank Corporation initiatives.

· Support system conversions and installations through the designing/ testing of the interface between application subsystems and the general ledger.

· Work under limited supervision and exercise latitude over work assignments.

· Assist Financial Reporting in the month-end close process, and in the quarterly and annual financial reporting process through the preparation of financial schedules and analyses.



PARTICIPATE IN PROJECTS:



· Participate in projects, such as assisting in the development of financial accounting procedures; testing of new application systems/products; support of the departments Sarbanes-Oxley objectives; participation in acquisition- related work and various ad hoc assignments.

· Research and compile data involving peer group studies to provide management with financial trends to be utilized in setting policies and realizing profit objectives.

· Perform other related assignments/ projects as requested by management



Basic Qualifications:



· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

· At least Four years accounting experience

· Strong analytical ability and creative problem solving skills, including knowledge and application of GAAP

· Proficiency with Excel, Word and database software

· Self-starter and motivated

· Strong organization skills with emphasis placed on detail and the ability to work effectively under time constraints

· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal







Ideal Qualifications:



· Certified Public Accountant designation preferred

· Public Accounting or Bank Internal audit experience preferred

· Sarbanes-Oxley experience

· Familiarity with Bank systems
